Classic Lines
by Erin Weinger | Angeleno magazine | January 26, 2012Mark Bridges doesn’t like to shop. “It’s too much work,” says the costume designer who has outfitted everyone from Dirk Diggler’s porn star persona in Boogie Nights to Micky Ward’s boxing champ in The Fighter. Based on his packed résumé and expert knack for period wardrobes—the New York native is being showered with Oscar buzz for his work on The Artist, set in 1920s Hollywood—it’s not surprising that Bridges avoids hunting for clothes during his downtime. The film features tailored smoking jackets, smart cloche hats and sequin shift dresses that he copied from genuine ’20s garb sourced at L.A.’s own Western Costume Co. and Palace Costume shops. Though you won’t find him at the mall, Bridges himself does indeed have a fashion wish list comprised of dapper, timeless men’s gear. “I’m interested in things that are a twist on classic periods,” he says.
